Omoda, Jaecoo and Jetour: what OBD-II reads on the new Chinese brands
These are new badges on established Chery platforms. Generic OBD-II reads them normally, which is the practical starting point when the workshop network is still forming.
Omoda and Jaecoo are Chery brands; Jetour is another. The badges are new in most export markets, the underlying platforms and engines are not.
That distinction is the useful one: the mechanical fault profile follows the Chery engineering rather than the marketing.

Generic OBD-II works
These are built for export markets with emissions compliance in mind, use CAN, and answer generic requests normally. Codes, live data, freeze frame and readiness all read with any competent adapter.
Beyond the powertrain — ABS, airbags, body modules — needs manufacturer-level access, as on any brand: scan tool limits.

Start with the supported PID list
On any less-familiar vehicle this is the most useful first action. The ECU advertises which parameters it supports, and reading that list tells you exactly what this car will report.
It prevents a great deal of fruitless searching for values that were never available.

Turbocharged direct-injection engines
The volume engines across these brands are turbocharged DI fours, and their fault profile follows that architecture.
Boost. Underboost codes are usually a split hose or a loose clamp rather than a failed turbocharger: turbocharger boost leak diagnostics and P0299 and P0234.
Intake valve carbon. Accumulates as on any DI engine. Misfires that survive new coils and plugs point here: GDI carbon buildup and P0301 to P0304.
Mixture codes from perished intake and vacuum hoses. Fuel trims at idle versus 2500 rpm settle leak against metering: P0171 and P0174.
Cooling. Watch the coolant temperature curve rather than the damped dashboard gauge: P0128 and temperature gauge fluctuating.
Dual-clutch transmissions
Widely used across these models. The general rules apply:
- Fluid service on a real interval. Wet-clutch versions in particular.
- Some low-speed hesitation is normal dual-clutch behaviour, not a fault.
- Shudder, slip and warning messages are not normal.
Log RPM against vehicle speed to distinguish design behaviour from wear: gears slipping on an automatic and transmission shudder at low speed.
P0700 is a pointer only; read the transmission module. Then P0730.
Hybrid and plug-in versions
Several models offer hybrid or plug-in hybrid drivetrains. Generic OBD-II gives you the combustion side; traction battery and inverter data are manufacturer-specific.
Plug-in hybrid diagnostics, hybrid battery state of health and EV 12V battery failures — the last matters because a flat 12 V battery immobilises a hybrid completely.
Electrical
Generous equipment levels mean many modules, and the usual consequence: a weak battery produces communication codes across unrelated systems.
Test under load before diagnosing anything: alternator charging diagnostics, U0100 and when the scanner lies about ghost codes.
The two ownership questions
Parts availability and lead times in your market. Worth establishing before buying rather than after a failure.
Workshop familiarity. A technician who has not seen the model relies more heavily on the data you bring. That is where owner-side diagnostics earns its keep: walking into a workshop with your own data and choosing a good workshop.
Build a baseline in the first month
On a brand without decades of accumulated collective knowledge, your own recorded history is disproportionately valuable.
Record fuel trims at idle and 2500 rpm, coolant temperature through a warm-up, and charging voltage under load. Repeat quarterly. Drift is what reveals developing problems, and it only works if you took the first reading.
