Porsche Cayenne and Panamera OBD-II Diagnostics: 3.6 V6, 4.8 V8, PDK, PASM
DTC codes for Porsche Cayenne 958 and Panamera 970/971: 3.6 V6 P0128, 4.8 Biturbo P0300, PDK P0894, PASM air suspension C1A25 — Live Data and OBD-II without PIWIS tester.
Porsche Cayenne and Panamera are premium VAG group vehicles with extensive electronic systems. Most engines and transmissions are shared with Volkswagen and Audi, so OBD-II codes are largely VAG-specific. But there are Porsche-unique fault patterns too.
3.6 V6 M9A / 3.0 V6 (Cayenne 958, Panamera 970): Petrol V6
P0128 — Coolant Temperature Below Threshold
Characteristic Cayenne 958 3.6 V6 fault:
- Wahler mappable (variable temperature) thermostat
- When it fails, thermostat stays open → engine never reaches 87°C

Consequences: Increased fuel consumption, higher wear, P0128.
P0300 / P0301–P0306 — Misfires 3.6 V6
3.6 V6 M9A after 100,000 km:
- Ignition coils degrade → uneven combustion
- NGK Iridium plugs → replace every 50,000 km (not 100,000 km as Porsche recommends)

4.8 V8 M48/50B (Cayenne Turbo, Panamera): Biturbo V8
P0087 — Rail Pressure (4.8 V8 TT FSI)
4.8 Biturbo with direct injection (FSI):
- Two HP pumps (one per bank)
- After 80,000 km one or both pumps deliver lower pressure

Fuel Rail Pressure Actual B1andB2: should match ±30 bar- Difference > 50 bar between banks → one pump underperforming
P0300 — GDI Carbon on Valves
4.8 FSI — direct injection without port injectors:
STFT B1/B2> +7% → valve carbon deposits- Walnut Blasting required after 80,000–100,000 km
PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung): 7-Speed Dual-Clutch
PDK is similar to VAG DQ500 but with Porsche-specific calibration:
P0894 — PDK Clutch Pack Slip
- P0894 = General clutch slipping fault
Clutch K1/K2 Temperature> 180°C → clutch overheating (common in traffic)
P0715 — Turbine Speed Sensor: Fault
Turbine Speed Sensor: 0 RPM while moving → sensor or wiring
PDK Live Data:
PDK ATF Temperature: normal < 90°C driving; > 120°C = cooling or overheatingClutch 1/2 Position: 0–100% → engagement/disengagement status- PDK ATF change every 60,000 km (Porsche-approved Esso LT 71141 or Pentosin FFL-2)
PASM — Porsche Active Suspension Management (Air Suspension)
C1A25 / C1A26 — Air Spring: Fault
Cayenne 9PA (955/957) and 958 with air suspension:
Causes:
- Air spring bellows cracked after 7–10 years
- Air suspension compressor overheated → protective shutdown
Live Data PASM:
Ride Height Front Left/Right: difference > 15 mm → one side saggingAir Compressor Runtime: > 8 min/cycle → system leakReservoir Pressure: normal 12–16 bar; < 9 bar → compressor worn
Cayenne 9PA note: Valve block under the bonnet — rubber seals crack after 10 years. Compressor Running Time > 10 min overnight → valve block or bellows leaking.
PDCC — Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (Active Anti-Roll Bar)
B0901 — PDCC Actuator: Fault
PDCC is a hydraulic active anti-roll bar system:
- B0901 on hydraulic actuator failure
PDCC Pressure Bar: normal 100–130 bar in normal driving
PSM — Porsche Stability Management: OBD Codes
- C0710 — Steering angle sensor: fault (requires calibration after steering work)
- C0031–C0040 — Wheel speed sensors (ABS/PSM)
Porsche-Specific OBD Diagnostics
Porsche uses Porsche System Tester (PIWIS) for full diagnostics. Via standard ELM327:
- Basic Mode 01 PIDs: RPM, ECT, MAF, O2
- P/C/B/U codes read via standard OBD
