P0305 / P0302 — Misfires

Pentastar specifics:

• Pentastar 3.6L Gen 1 (2011–2015) has a known defect — carbon buildup on valves from a faulty oil separator ring in cylinder 3 → misfires specifically in cylinder #3
• Post-2016 engines were revised — much less common

• Misfire Count Cyl 3 — pay attention to cylinder 3 specifically

P0522 / P0524 — Oil Pressure Sensor: Signal Too Low

• Actual low oil pressure — from oil pump wear or worn bearings

Check:

• Live Data → Engine Oil Pressure at warm idle: normal 25–40 PSI (Pentastar)
• Below 15 PSI → stop engine and diagnose cause
• If pressure normal but code present → replace OPS sensor

MultiAir 1.4T (Jeep Renegade, Compass): Specific Problems

MultiAir 1.4T (55260384, 55282073) — Fiat-developed engine, fitted to Renegade BU and Compass MP.

P0016 — CKP/CMP Synchronization Failure

MultiAir specifics: The MultiAir system controls intake valves directly via hydraulics (no intake camshaft). Synchronization failure can mean:

• Damaged MultiAir mechanism (electro-hydraulic actuator)
• Worn timing chain (critical on 1.4T after 60,000 miles)

WARNING: The Fiat MultiAir 1.4T timing chain is one of the most notorious weak points of the Renegade. Replacement before 50,000 miles is recommended by many mechanics as a preventive measure.

P0171 — Lean Mixture (1.4T MultiAir)

• Dirty MAF or air leak after MAF
• Clogged or faulty fuel injector
• Intake manifold foam degradation (production defect in some batches)

U0100 / U0101 — Lost Communication with ECM / TCM (CAN Bus)

Jeep and Chrysler are notorious for complex CAN networks. U-codes are very common after any repair.

• Poorly connected or forgotten connector after repair
• Low battery voltage (< 11V) → CAN modules drop off
• Damaged CAN bus wiring (rare)
