When calibration is needed

  • Windshield replacement — camera bolted to glass, shifted → static + dynamic calibration needed
  • Bumper repair — radar shifted 0.5-2° → ACC imprecise
  • Wheel alignment — steering angle sensor needs re-calibration
  • DTC C1B01/C1B02 — no CEL, but ADAS is disabled with a cluster warning

What OBD-II sees

Via Mode 22 UDS:

  • Camera calibration status: not calibrated / in progress / done
  • Radar horizontal angle: typically ±0.3° (spec)
  • Radar vertical angle: typically ±1°

Dangerous consequences of skipping calibration

  • Lane Keep off by 2° → car holds trajectory 6-8 in off-line → at 60 mph wheels touch the shoulder
  • ACC radar off by 1° → 300 ft ahead the point “looks” 5.5 ft off → misses a car or brakes at “empty space”
  • AEB won’t fire if camera sees wrong → collision

So: don’t drive with C1B01/C1B02 even if you don’t “use” ADAS — LKA can actively steer the wrong direction.
