Brake system — general symbol
The amber BRAKE icon (in a circle or standalone) is a warning about a non-critical brake-system fault. Difference from the red version: the car can safely continue, but the system needs a check.
What this indicator means
Unlike the red (critical) light, the amber brake light usually signals less serious deviations: fluid slightly below reference (but not critical), pad wear approaching threshold, or a stored fault that no longer recurs.
Common causes
- Fluid level near the low mark (but above MIN)
- Pad wear 30–50% into the critical zone
- Stored ABS/EBD fault in ECU memory
- No reset performed after pad replacement
- Cold fluid temperature (winter — can trigger overnight)
What to do as a driver
Check fluid in the reservoir. Top up if needed (only the fluid spec`d for your car, DOT 3/4/5.1). Inspect pads visually. If everything looks right, clear the fault via OBD adapter.
Safety
Important, not critical: brakes work normally. Repair at the next opportunity.
