Catalytic converter

The catalytic converter turns toxic exhaust gases (CO, HC, NOx) into CO₂, H₂O and N₂. It consists of a ceramic honeycomb block coated with a platinum/palladium/rhodium wash. Efficiency is monitored by comparing the upstream and downstream O2 sensor signals (P0420 = "below threshold").
