SEAT and Cupra Common OBD-II Codes: Ibiza, Leon, Cupra Formentor
Top DTC codes for SEAT Ibiza, Leon, Cupra Formentor: EA211 1.0/1.5 TSI misfires, DSG DQ200/DQ381 problems, P0299 turbo, VAG extended diagnostics — OBD-II guide.
SEAT and Cupra are part of the Volkswagen Group (VAG). Most engines and transmissions are shared with VW, Audi, and Skoda — so problems and diagnostics are largely similar. But there are specific nuances of the MQB A0/A1 platform and the Cupra model range.
EA211 1.0/1.5 TSI: SEAT Ibiza, Leon IV Engines
1.0 TSI (SEAT Ibiza KJ, SEAT Arona)
Small turbo, simple engine — but with specific issues:
P0172 — Rich Mixture (1.0 TSI):
- Cause: PCV valve (crankcase ventilation) in cam cover blows oily vapour into intake → mixture enrichens

STFT B1< -8% → fuel enrichment - Symptoms: increased fuel consumption, oily deposit on throttle body
P0299 — Underboost 1.0 TSI:
- Wastegate actuator (Honeywell/Continental) prone to failure after 50,000–60,000 miles

1.5 TSI EVO (SEAT Leon IV, Cupra León)
Newer engine with ACT (Active Cylinder Technology — cylinder deactivation).
P0303 / P0304 During ACT Operation:
- When switching between 4-cyl and 2-cyl modes, brief misfires can occur
- ECU masks them as “permitted misfires during ACT switch”
- If code remains active → faulty injector or valve in the deactivated cylinder
ACT Live Data:

DSG DQ200 and DQ381: SEAT Leon/Cupra Transmission
DQ200 7-speed “Dry” DCT (Leon 1.5 TSI etc.)
Same as VW Golf 7:
- P17BF — Clutch K1 slip (pull-away from standstill)
- P17C0 — Clutch K2 overheat (heavy traffic)
Critical: VAG released an official TCU software update for DQ200 that resolves most pull-away issues. Check with SEAT/Cupra dealer whether it’s been applied.
DQ381 7-speed “Wet” DCT (Cupra Formentor VZ, Cupra León)
DQ381 — wet version for more powerful variants. More reliable than DQ200 but has its own nuances:
P171B / P172A — hydraulic clutch K1/K2 pressure
DQ381 Live Data:

P174F / P174E — Haldex: rear differential fault
- Cause: low Haldex fluid level, faulty Haldex coupling

Cupra Born (Electric Vehicle)
Cupra Born (EV, MEB platform):
- P0A80 — HV Battery: capacity degraded

VAG Extended Diagnostics: What You Need for Full SEAT/Cupra Diagnosis
SEAT/Cupra use the VAG UDS/KWP protocol over OBD-II.
Standard ELM327 Mode 01/03 gives:
