Tesla tyre pressure — TPMS
The amber tyre-pressure icon on Tesla is a standard TPMS. Tesla uses direct-type (sensor in each valve), so precision is higher than the indirect system on classic cars.
What this indicator means
Each Tesla wheel has a 433 MHz radio sensor in the valve stem. It transmits pressure and temperature every 30–60 seconds. The indicator fires on >20% deviation from reference or a sudden change (blowout).
Common causes
- Punctured or under-inflated tyre
- Winter temperature drop (0.1 bar per 10 °C)
- Wheel change without sensor re-pair
- Sensor battery depletion (5–7 years)
- Sensor damaged from a kerb impact
What to do as a driver
Check all four tyres. Tesla Model 3 recommendation: 2.9 bar (42 psi) for 18" wheels. Inflate; the light should clear within 10 km. After a wheel change — Vehicle Settings → Service → TPMS Reset.
Safety
Important, not critical: continue to the nearest station; blowout — repair kit (Tesla has no spare).
