Tesla Traction Control
The amber Traction Control icon on Tesla activates in two cases: the system is actively intervening (blinking) or it is temporarily off / faulty (steady).
What this indicator means
On AWD Tesla (Long Range, Performance) traction control manages each motor`s torque independently. This is the finest traction control in the industry. On Standard Range/RWD it uses selective wheel-braking.
Common causes
- Active trigger during wheelspin (blinking = normal)
- Slip Start enabled (intentional)
- Wheel-speed sensor — same as ABS
- Different tyre sizes on axles (only two replaced)
- Motor inverter issue
What to do as a driver
On steady illumination check Vehicle Settings → Autopilot → Slip Start. If off and the icon persists — diagnostics needed. Verify tyre uniformity.
Safety
Important: without TC risk of wheelspin on slippery. Avoid hard accelerations.
