PID
Parameter ID — live-parameter identifier.
A PID is the code by which the scanner asks the ECU for a real-time parameter value (engine RPM, coolant temp, MAF, etc.). The standard library is ~84 PIDs in Mode 01 of SAE J1979. Manufacturers add their own enhanced PIDs (transmission temp, fuel-rail pressure, etc.).
