Exhaust Gas Recirculation.
The EGR valve routes part of the exhaust gas back into the intake manifold, lowering combustion temperature and NOx emissions. Prone to soot buildup — common codes P0400-P0409. The EGR cooler can crack, causing coolant loss and white smoke.
