Drive cycle
Standard driving pattern for readiness monitors.
A drive cycle is a specific sequence — cold start / warmup / city / highway / stop — during which the ECU completes all its self-tests (O2, EGR, EVAP, catalyst, misfire). After a DTC reset readiness monitors show "not ready" — you must complete a drive cycle before an emission test.
