Mercedes C-Class and E-Class OBD-II Diagnostics: OM651, M271, 7G-Tronic, AIRMATIC
DTC codes for Mercedes W204/W212: OM651 2.2 CDI P0087 rail pressure, M271 CGI chain P0014, 7G-Tronic P0741, AIRMATIC air suspension C1141 — OBD-II Live Data without Star Diagnosis.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W204/W205) and E-Class (W212/W213) are extremely popular vehicles in Europe. With OM651, M271, M274 engines and the 7-speed 7G-Tronic gearbox, they have characteristic faults that diagnose well via OBD-II.
OM651 2.2 CDI (W204/W212): Four-Cylinder Diesel
P0087 — Rail Pressure OM651 (CP4)
OM651 (2008–2015) with Bosch CP4 pump:
Rail Pressure Actualat idle: normal 250–350 barRail Pressure Actualat 3,000 RPM: < 1,400 bar → pump or injectors- CP4 sensitive to water content and FAME (biodiesel > 7%)
CP4 failure signs:
- P0087 + hard starting
- Metal debris in injectors → injectors must be replaced after CP4 failure
P0299 — Underboost OM651
Most common code on W204 CDI after 100,000 km:
- Fouled VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) — soot prevents vanes from moving
- Turbo actuator (vacuum or electric) — failure

Solution: VGT cleaning in-situ (without removal, via WD-40 and warm-up cycle) or turbo replacement.

OM651 EGR with cooler:
EGR Valve Position vs Command: > 15% difference → valve fouled- Symptoms: black smoke on acceleration, rough idle
P2463 — DPF OM651
OM651 with Euro 5/6 DPF:
DPF Soot Mass g: > 28 g → forced regenerationDPF Differential Pressureat 80 km/h: > 12 kPa → DPF not regenerating
City driving problem: Short trips prevent passive regeneration → active regeneration needed weekly in urban conditions.
M271 1.8 CGI / Kompressor (W204, W212): Petrol
P0014 — Camshaft Timing (M271 Chain)
M271 Kompressor and M271 EVO (CGI) — characteristic timing chain issue:
- Chain stretches after 80–100,000 km due to guide rail wear
- P0014 — excessive camshaft advance (chain has “jumped”)
Live Data:
Camshaft Position B1 Actual vs Target: > 10° deviation on cold start → chain stretch- Characteristic rattle on cold start (similar to N47)
Critical: Unlike N47 (rear chain), M271 chain is at the front, but guide wear still leads to P0014 and potential breakage.
P0340 — Camshaft Position Sensor M271
- Chain wear leads to synchronisation loss

M274 2.0 Turbo (W205/W213): Modern Petrol
P0299 — M274 Underboost
M274 (2014+) — 4-cylinder turbo with direct injection:

M274 — direct injection only:
STFT B1> +8% → valve carbon deposits building- Recommendation: Walnut Blasting after 80,000 km
7G-Tronic (722.9): 7-Speed Automatic
7G-Tronic — proven Mercedes gearbox, but requires ATF servicing.
P0741 — Torque Converter Clutch Slip
- P0741 = excessive torque converter clutch slip during lockup
TCC Slip Speed: > 50 RPM in 7th gear → slipping- Causes: contaminated ATF or worn converter clutch lining
P0722 — Output Shaft Speed Sensor
Output Speed Sensor: 0 while moving → emergency mode (3rd gear)Input vs Output RPM Ratiodoesn’t match current gear → sensor or mechanical issue
7G-Tronic ATF:
- Official interval “lifetime” → in practice every 60,000 km (Mercedes 236.14 or equivalent)
- Without change after 150,000 km → deposits in valve body → P0741, P0722

C1141 — AIRMATIC Compressor
Mercedes AIRMATIC — complex pneumatic system:
- C1141 = compressor not responding or overheated
- C1142 = system pressure below minimum

Most common leak locations:
