An engine that fires and stops within two seconds is telling you something specific, and the timing narrows the cause more than any code.
Nothing at all when you press the button is a different fault from cranking and not starting. The list of causes is short and mostly cheap.
Nine times out of ten this is not a fault at all, and the fix takes five seconds. The other one time is a lock cylinder, and it is worth knowing which you have before calling anyone.
